I absolutely understand your point! I perhaps didn't articulate clearly enough what to do about the flip-side to my argument for natural consequences (that's why I'm here to learn to be a better writer!). I do usually help parents identify the "deal breakers"... in other words natural consequences that aren't worth the risk. Giving a child a gun who has not been properly trained to use the gun or at an age to be properly trained would definitely have a deal breaker natural consequence. Outside of deal breakers, everything else is on the table! I likely didn't articulate this because in our culture most parents are nowhere near at risk of coming close to violating the deal breakers - haha!
